New Work: Digital Photography 1

Alright!  A new batch of Digital Photography 1 students have completed their trial by fire by passing their photography 1 exam and capturing images on the Topeka West campus and around the Topeka area.

As always, I am very proud to share these freshly-edited images with you and hope that you take the time to browse through the gallery and share our blog with other students, friends, and family! And if you recognize any of the student names feel free to give them a high five in class.  They'd appreciate the kudos.

Enjoy the gallery!

Update: 2016 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

For only the second time, in the 20 years that I have been teaching at Topeka West, a photography student's Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Gold Key image has been accepted into the national show!!

Please extend a HUGE congratulations to Topeka West junior photography student Idely Alarcon whose image, Profound Thoughts, has been awarded an additional Gold Key National Medal and will be included in the 2016 Art.Write.Now. National Exhibition and Student Showcase to be held in New York City (June 2-12)!!

Idely Alarcon, junior          Profound Thoughts, National Gold Key Medal

Some additional facts from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards include:

  • This fall and winter, students across the country and from places abroad submitted nearly 320,000 works of art and writing to the 2016 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
  • Nearly 18,000 works earned regional Gold Keys and advanced to New York City for national adjudication.
  • Of those Gold Key works, just 2,400 received National Medals! YOUR work is one of the top 1% of art and writing submitted to the 2016 Scholastic Awards!

Again, congratulations to Idely!  We are extremely proud of her!!

New Work: Digital Photography 2 & Advanced Photography

The second round of critiques for the Digital Photography 2 and Advanced Photography classes have come and gone as well as half of the spring semester.  Where has the time gone?!?

Luckily for me, and you (our audience), the Topeka West photography students are continuing to produce some of the most amazing images in the last few years!  I hope that our students continue their creativity throughout the remainder of the semester.  I hope you are super-excited to view this most recent gallery...I think you will really enjoy it!!
